Short/Day Seminars

If you have only a few hours to spare, spend it here. OK, practice time is limited, but you'll learn the most important lesson: that you have choices. In a single session you'll learn about real risks, assailant tricks, crucial targets and how to create an impact, and releases from the most common grabs.

"Thank you for last night's excellent class. It was intelligently designed to separate myth from reality, and the interactive activities drove home the points. Plus, you did it all with grace and humor!" - Pat in Seattle

"Great class that not only taught basic physical defense, but also how to recognize people/situations that may lead to assault."

"Excellent mix of class discussion and hands on work. Joanne is a wealth of knowledge on the subject and her practical style was perfect for the subject."

Self-Defense Basics for Women, Wednesday October 13, 6:30 - 9:30 pm. Course #21.0112 through the ASUW Experimental College. The college experience should be challenging and rewarding. Yet the first two months can be particularly high-risk for young women new to campus. Do you know all you can do if facing physical threat? Women who successfully defend themselves are better able to quickly recognize threatening situations, express, and if necessary physically enforce their boundaries. In this class you will learn how to recognize assailant ploys and manipulations - and how to thwart them. Practice releases from common grabs and decisive strikes to vital targets. Assess your risks, and plan around them. Come prepared to challenge yourself - emPOWERment doesn't get more fun. Read what one woman took away from this class. Registration will open by September.
